When your cat grows into the older ages of its life, it can be difficult for both cat and owner. That cat is going through changes with its body that can be frustrating, and the owner doesn’t like to see her once perky pet having the problems that go along with aging.
When a cat ages it changes physically in several ways. Its fur will turn white, especially near its snout. It will begin to lose muscle and nerve strength in its legs. Its organs will begin to diminish. It may even begin to lose sight or hearing. All this can cause a great deal of stress on the animal that causes it to not be as outgoing as it once was.
When your cat reaches its golden years, you need to care for your cat like you never have before. It’s more important now than ever that you shower your pet with love and care. It needs to rest assured that you’re there for it. In return you’ll get much affection. You need to be sure to understand that the aging process means your cat will experience many changes in its body. You need to know that these changes may not always be accepted well by your pet.
Your older pet may want to lie around more and perhaps cuddle in a corner. You can let it do that, but be sure to give your older cat exercise. You need to make sure you take your cat outside for exercise and play with it some. But don’t overexert your cat. You don’t want it to get overly tired or hurt your pet.
It’s important for you to give your older cat plenty of water and added vitamins that it may not have had a need for before. Older cats tend not to eat as much as they did when they were younger. Be sure to give your cat milk or eggs now and then to keep its weight up, if that becomes a problem.
When you start noticing your older cat become increasingly sluggish and tired, be sure to take it in to see your vet more frequently to keep its health level high. If your vet asks you to give your older cat any medicines or added vitamins, be sure you follow those directions specifically. Your vet knows the health of cats and what is good for them. And you certainly want your cat to live as long and as well as possible.
